Clarisse Cremer finished 12th in the Vendee Globe, being the first woman who breaks the world record on solo nonstop monohull round ….

After carefully crossing the lush Bay of Biscay, the triumphant Clarisse Crémer crossed the finish line of the ninth Vendee Globe at 15:44:25 UTC to take the excellent 12th place with Banque Populaire X.

Finishing in the late afternoon with a decreasing westerly wind of 20 knots with 4-5 meters of waves, she is the first female skipper to finish from the field of 33 starters. Her time was 87 days 02 hours and 24 minutes as Kremer broke Ellen MacArthur’s 21-year record of 94 days 4 hours, which she set when she finished second in the Vendée Globe 2000-2001. She received a huge, warm welcome on the Les Sables d’Olonne channel.
“I am so happy to be here. It is a great relief, we were stressed to the end. I am happy that I succeeded and came back with my team. This welcome is amazing, I feel like I’m dreaming. I realize that at the beginning of the Vendée Globe I didn’t know how to use the boat so well and I discovered the ‘beast’ while it was going. It’s nice to be more comfortable on your machine. The preparation time was a bit short, I felt it the first week when I was a little scared of everything I had to do. I think I had less problems in terms of technical problems. I am happy to have a great team and a very well prepared boat. There were times when I wished I had pushed harder on the machine, but the goal was to finish. So it was hard for me, especially in terms of fatigue and the feeling of constantly having the sword of Damocles over my head, wondering when the next bad thing was going to happen. The moment I stopped thinking about it, it really got better and better.” If I could go around the world again right away, I would, ”she said in recent days.
