A historic success for Bulgaria, Victor Stanoev (Bul 7474) and the coveted 25th place in the Golden Group of the Optimist World Championship in Riva Del Garda ….

Yesterday ended the Optimist World Championship 2021, held in Riva Del Garda, Italy. It was attended by 260 sailors from 50 nations. These are the Top 5 sailors from each country in the ranking of Optimist, the next 7 go to the European Championships. An exceptional joy for all of us is the achieved historical success of Viktor Stanoev, who first ranked in the Golden Group (1-60) of the World Championship, and then took the top 25 place in the world!

Optimist class is the most popular sailing class in the world, with officially registered over 250,000 children-competitors. Of these, the best 5 from each nation go to the World Championship. The championship was held in 8 racing days. The first 3 days were qualifications for the groups – gold, silver, bronze and emerald, then the 4th and 5th day are team racing (this year the World Champion in the team competition became Italy) and the last 3 days are group wrestling. Long, heavy, with huge competition and tension, Viktor Stanoev resists mentally, physically, and purposefully manages to enter the Golden Group, occupying a worthy and successful for Bulgaria, 25th place!
The Bulgarian national team at the World Championship was represented by the national coach Yana Markova and the competitors: Viktor Stanoev (25th place – Golden group), Marian Shangov (110th place – Silver group), Plamen Bozhkov (177th place – Bronze group), Daniela Gocheva (182nd place – Bronze Group) and Tino Tomov (208th – Emerald).
Victor is a registered competitor at the Yacht Club “Capt. G. Georgiev-Port Varna”, but for the last 2 years, his personal trainer is his father Svilen Stanoev. He prepares by participating in many international clinics (mainly run by the most famous coach in the Optimist class Italian Simone Ricci), as well as a number of international regattas and championships! Last year he became the National Champion of Bulgaria and currently continues to lead the rankings in the Optimist class. After this success, he is determined to perform even better next year at the World Cup in Bodrum, Turkey.

This year’s world champion was the Brazilian Alex De Kuhl, followed by the American Gil Hackel and the Italian Alex Demurtas !!! The Optimist World Championship’2021 is hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva in collaboration with FIV, IODA, AICO, Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, Garda and Trentino.
